A History of The Next Food Network Star, by the Numbers

A History ot THE NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR By the Numbers Battle ofthe Sexes LETS START SMALL... Over the past nine seasons, how many contestants have been men, and how many were women? 52 Men vs. 50 Women UM... LADIES? Gender stereotypes aside, the ladies have had a particularly bad time in the NFNS kitchen over the past nine seasons. FEMALE MALE WINNERS WINNERS O0000000 DON'T CALL US... Since Season One, 8 women have been eliminated in the veryt t episode. Only one man has been eliminated first (Howie Drummond - Season 7.) Biggest and Smallest CALIFORNIAAAAAAA California is the heavyweight champ, contributing 30 NFNS contestants. Runners up include New York, Georgia, Florida, and Texas. CA NY 30 17 GA TX AGE IS JUSTA NUMBER. The ages of NFNS contestants varies widely, however the average age of a contestant is 33.8. 20 Age of the youngest to compete, Shane Lyons from Season Four. (That's not even old enough to legally drink the wine you're cooking with!) 53 Age of the oldest to compete, Michael Salmon from Season Three. (Incidentally, Shane and Michael were both dismissed in the 6th week of their respective seasons.) Keep Your Day. Job WHAT DO YOU DO? Since Season Four, the show has asked contestants to list an occupation. Think all of the NFNS contestants are chefs? Think again! Scrver Personal Chef Private Chef Exccutive Chef Blogger Catcrer Restauratcur 10 Chef 16 "Dther" 17 (Occupations listed in the "other" category include: marketing manager, radio host, stand-up comedian, sales manager, stay-at-home-mom, attorney, teacher, and college student) WINNERS AND LOSERS Unsurprisingly, self-described "chefs" have had the most success over the past eight seasons with three total victories. "Chef" (3) "Dther" on "Duner" "Blogger" (1) (2 cach) What Docs it All Mean? Based on the fact that most winners are male, most winners identify as a "chef" (occupationally), and the state of California has the most NFNS winners, our completely non-scientific prediction for this Sunday's finale is that. Russell Will Likely be the Winner He's Male: Over 66% of the winners of NFNS are men. He's From CA: California has the most winners of any state. He's a Chef: Chefs hold the most victories of any occupation. Rodney Has the Second Best Shot He's Male, but describes himself as an "Owner" rather than "Chef". He also hails from the great state of MD rather than perennial winner CA. Sorry, Damaris! Only one-third of NFNS winners are Female. Damaris also lists her occupation as a Culinary Teacher rather than Chef. Damaris is from Kentucky, which has never had a victor.
