DIEVOLE WW w.dievole.it FIELD CELLAR One year on the life of a grapevine THERE IS MORE THAT GOES INTO A GLASS OF WINE THAN JUST GRAPES. Each vineyard has its own yearly lifecycle and is bustling with activity every month to ensure that the best grapes are produced and the best wines are made. PRUNING Pruning dormant vines enhances the grape's quality by controlling the quantity of the buds left on each plant. December January February PLANTING Weather conditions are ideal for planting new vines. March BLOOM New and existing vines begin bloom. New buds are trimmed to ensure continuous owth while frost protection measures are taken. April TREATMENTS Grapevines are susceptible to several fungal diseases and May is the month for treatments. May TRELLISING Flourishing vines are trellised to absorb sunlight and airflow, which enhances the ripening processs. June PEST CONTROL Winegrowers focus on pest control to ensure their crops stay damage-free. Vines are still pruned to ensure there is more fruit growing than leaves. July VERASION Grapes transform from small, hard green berries into full, brightly-colo- red grapes. Fine tuning is practiced to remove less-ripened and excess grapes from the crop. Preparations are made at the winery for the upcoming harvest such as cleaning and controlling pests August in barrels and tanks. HARVEST Ripe grape bunches are picked daily form the vines! Only the best grapes selected make it to the winery. September October FERMENTATION Wineries bustle with activity around the clock. Grapes are crushed and de-stemmed. Grape juice is pumped into oak barrels for fermentation. Fermented grape juice has turned into wine and is placed in holding tanks to age. October November AGED WINE IS BOTTLED AND SHIPPED TO CONSUMERS ALL OVER THE WORLD. Meanwhile, fermented grape skins fertilize the land in the vineyard ensuring perfect growing conditions for next year's harvest.
