Election Year Coffee Insert

Spilling Our Beans Presidential Percolations Election season is gearing up! In celebration, we're looking back at how some former Heads of State took their morning brew. George Washington- Not only was our first president an avid coffee drinker, he imported and roasted his beans himself! He was particularly fond of beans from Southeast Asia, even requesting some from the famed port of Mocha just weeks before he died. Thomas Jefferson- Jefferson also roasted his own coffee, storing up to sixty pounds of green beans in his home at a time. He loved his morning brew so much that he designed his own style of coffee pot. Abraham Lincoln- Lincoln wasn't much of a foodie, but he did like apples and hot coffee, as some historians note. During the early 1900s, the Lincoln Coffee Club brand used his face on their tins, which are now valuable antiques. Theodore Roosevelt-Roosevelt might just be our favorite. He was rumored to drink a gallon of coffee a day, from a mug that some say resembled more of a bathub than a mug. He was also a fiend for sugar, putting as many as seven lumps in his morning brew!
