Rain drops 25 years precipitation in Eindhoven Extreme rainfall Eindhoven Атount Frequency This datavisualization shows 25 years of precipitation a month. Each circle within a month represents the amount of precipitation on one day. Research shows that linked to the global warming of the last decennia the intensity of precipitation increased as well. Between 1910 and 2013 the yearly precipitation in the Netherlands increased with 26%. Caused by higher temperatures the amount of vapour in the air expands. This partially explains the increase of the amount of precipitation. The effect on heavy rainfall however is even bigger. It appears from observations that on most occasions of extreme rainfall the amount of precipitation increases by approximately 12% an hour per degree of temperature rise. According to the KNMI'14 - climate scenarios the amount of precipitation will increase furthermore on average and the chances of extreme rainfall (cloudbursts) accompanied by hail and thunderstorms will grow bigger. Although not in the wettest region of the Netherlands, the city of Eindhoven (in the south of the Netherlands) has been witnessing the increase on extremes as well. Although the municipality has done a great job on renewing and enlarging the capacity of the sewage-system on various locations and designing wadis in street profiles, it's still a victim of local floodings when (especially in summer) the extreme showers hit the city. Streets as well as houses have been flooded on several occasions in the last 25 years. The amount of precipitation (in mm) during a given space of time (daily, hourly) with the frequency of exceeding. For example there's an average of twice a year when at least an amount of 10 mm an hour precipitation is expected. атоunt in 0.1тm 32 27 23 18 Ix every 20 years 1x every 10 years- 1x every 5 years ix every 2 years 1x a year 2x a year 5x a year 10х а уear (daily precipitation <0,05 is all rendered this size) 139 138 28- 21 14 normal frequency mm. a day тах. тт. аn hour < 0,05 1,0 2,5 5,0 7,5 10,0 An additional occurrence on top of these averages a day тах. an hour • cloudburst : >25 mm within 1 hour or >10mm within 5 minutes totals a year in 0.1 mm Summer Autumn Winter Spring June July August September October November December January February March April May last half of 1990 362,3 1991 566,5 1992 760,6 1993 788,8 The wettest day in hours was sept. 25th, 1993. 1994 807,9 1995 733,0 1996 584,0 1997 626,5 1998 957,6 1999 810,5 2000 841,8 2001 911,2 2002 804,0 The year 2004 had the 2nd wettest summer ever. 2003 679,2 2004 818,6 2005 700,8 I1 ш 2006 725,7 2007 847,8 2008 713,0 2009 734,2 The year 2011 had the wettest summer ever but also the driest spring of all times.* 2010 758,2 On August 15th 18,8 mm rain (the total of that day) fell within 24 minutes. 2011 732,2 2012 851,7 The year 2014 had the most intens precipitation with an average precipitation intensity of 1,5mm (it was also the warmest year ever).* 2013 705,5 first half of 2015 262,4 2014 814,6 ПO Nationally: In 1906 the KNMI started measuring the weatherconditions in the Netherlands.
