AMERICAN FORESTS AND THE ALCOA FOUNDATION'S PARTNERSHIP FOR TREES PROGRAM American Forests and The Alcoa Foundation have joined together for the Partnership for Trees Program, a multi-year initiative to plant hundreds of thousands of native tree species on damaged and degraded sites around the world by engaging local communities in the restoration of forest ecosystems. DURING OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ALCOA FOUNDATION, WE HAVE PLANTED 1.14 MILLION TREES. THAT'S MORE THAN THE POPULATION OF RHODE ISLAND! 1.055 MILLION PEOPLE 52 UNIQUE COMMUNITIES SERVED 22 2011 4 10 2013 2015 2013 2014 SO FAR, AMERICAN FORESTS AND THE ALCOA FOUNDATION HAVE COMPLETED 100 FOREST RESTORATION PROJECTS ACROSS THE WORLD STATES WASHINGTON NEW YORK MICHIGAN PENNSYLVANIA MARYLAND CALIFORNIA OHIO INDIANA TENNESSEE SOUTH CAROLINA GEORGIA LOUISIANA TEXAS COUNTRIES CANADA RUSSIA ICELAND U.K. GERMANY FRANCE HUNGARY SOUTH KOREA SPAIN CHINA MEXICO GUINEA BRAZIL CO. TREES PLANTED WITH THE ALCOA FOUNDATION COULD STORE UP TO 54.72 MILLION I TREE = UP TO 48 PO UNDS TONS OF CARBON, VALUED OF CO, PER YEAR AT $1.16 BILLION 4,036 TOTAL ACRES PLANTED 533 970 2015 2011 883 415 2014 2012 1,235 2013 ÓNE ACRE 26,000 MILES OF DRIVING ONE ACRE = 200-300 TREES, DEPENDING AVERAGE CAR IS DRIVEN ON SPECIES *Our calculation per Shawn/GR 15,000 MILES PER YEAR ONE ACRE ABOUT 2 CARS OFF THE ROAD PER YEAR THE BENEFIT OF PLANTING I.14 MILLION TREES WITH THE ALCOA FOUNDATION IS THE EQUIVALENT OF TAKING APPROXIMATELY 7,000 CARS OFF THE ROAD EVERY YEAR! TWO TREES PROVIDE ENOUGH OXYGEN FOR ONE PERSON TO BREATHE OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR THANKS TO OUR PLANTINGS, OVER 570,000 PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS TO FRESH AIR MORE TH AN HALF OF THE NATION'S DRINKING WATER ORIGINATES FROM FORESTS! GLOBALLY, ONE LARGE TREE CAN CAPTURE UP TO 36,500 GALLONS OF WATER PER YEAR IN 40 YEARS, TREES PLANTED BY THE ALCOA FOUNDATION AND AMERICAN FORESTS COULD CAPTURE UP TO 41.6 TRILLION GALLONS OF WATER ANNUALLY, IMPROVING WATER QUALITY IN SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES TREES REDUCE STORMWATER RUNOFF BY CAPTURING AND STORING RAINFALL IN THEIR CANOPIES AND RELEASING MOISTURE INTO THE ATMOSPHERE WHEN LAND BESIDE STREAMS IS USED FOR GROWING TREES, SHRUBS AND GRASSES INSTEAD OF ROW CROPS LIKE CORN AND BEANS, THE RESULTING BUFFER ZONES CAN REDUCE BY AS MUCH AS 90 PERCENT THE AMOUNT OF POLLUTION THAT WASHES INTO THE WATER FORESTS ARE HOME TO 80% OF THE WORLD'S TERRESTRIAL BIODIVERSITY TREES HELP PROVIDE HEALTHY AQUATIC HABITAT FOR FISH BY COOLING WATER TEMPERATURES, INCREASING DISSOLVED OXYGEN, FILTERING POLLUTANTS, DECREASING RUNOFF AND PROVIDING FOOD S OURCES FOR WILDLIFE BROUGHT TO YOU BY: ALCOA AMERICAN FORESTS FOUNDATION
