The Great Fracking Debate

The Great Fracking Debate In order to recover shale gas under the earth drilling companies use a process called fracking. This means drilling into the ground and injecting rock with a mixture of chemicals, water and sand at a high pressure. This then forces gas to flow out of a well. Those who oppose this process are generally environmentalists. But what are the positives and negatives surrounding the process? INHYE For Against Research is Needs more necessary There may be a viable industry in fracking. research Exploratory work is damaging and may not produce results. Revolutionise energy industry No savings Our present sources of energy are in decline. Investment in renewable energy would bring prices down. Minimal risk It's not safe There are regulations in place for other forms of mining and they work. Dangerous chemicals are released during the process. Climate change Lower emissions rate than energy produced from coal. The process releases greenhouse gases which adds to global warming Wastes water Always improving Those involved are continually improving the process to reduce the effect on the environment. It uses up valuable resources such as water.
