Policy initiated 2009 – 2012 Federal Stimulus $$$ granted (used for LED streetlights and public building efficiency upgrades) 73% of the waste 2011 generated in Fremont was kept out of landfills - 8% higher than the statewide East Bay Energy Watch began serving small businesses in Fremont average of 65%! 2011 – 1 electric vehicle (EV) rebate issued (one small step wait till you see 2013!) 2012 March 2012 - Fremont adds Clean Tech and 2013 Biotechnology Business Tax Exemption November 2012 City of Fremont Climate Action Plan adopted by Council – sets 25% greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction by year 2020 from 2005 baseline Oct 2013 – Sustainability Coordinator hired – new position driven by the growth and citizen adoption of sutainability Residents diverted nearly 50,000 tons of recycling and organics 643 Full speed ahead! EV rebates issued 2014 Over-the-counter Streamlined Solar Permitting now made available Currently 24 Bay Area Green Business certified (<10kW systems) companies in Fremont May 2014 – 1,385 Fremont residents reported owning electric vehicles And so the journey continues ... Fremont Sustainability Progress Report: Transportation: 1,385 EV rebates were issued in Fremont as of May 2014 – in comparison to 2,744 rebates issued in the rest of Alameda County • In April 2014 Fremont received a $5.8M grant to build "complete" street grid Downtown (enhancing pedestrian and bicycle connections between Downtown and the Warm Springs/South Fremont BART station) • Warm Springs/South Fremont BART station slated to open in 2015 • Cars and trucks averaged 19.9 MPG in 2005 and 22.6 MPG in 2010 Solar: • Fremont ranks #13 in PG&E territory in terms of total megawatts of solar PV installed • There have been 49 commercial and 923 residential solar PV installations from 2001 to January 2014, with 11,466 kW total power generating capacity Green Business: • 8 LEED Certified projects since 2009 • 34 ENERGY STAR Certified Buildings since 2003 Climate Action: • Community-wide greenhouse gas emissions were reduced in Fremont by 11% from 2005 to 2010 Energy: Electricity usage in the built environment dropped by 9.3% and natural gas usage by 14.5% between 2005 and 2012 Water: • Per capita water consumption is down almost 20% since 2005
