15 Facts About Solar Energy

15 Facts About SOLAR ENERGY Though the sun may be 90 million miles away from the earth, solar energy is not as distant as we think. Light, traveling at over 700 million miles per hour, can be harnessed from the sun as an incredible source of energy for humans to use. For billions of years the sun has been the most important producer of energy. This energy can be used to light homes, make fossil fuels, heat water and produce electricity. Fact 1 Solar Energy is measured in kilowatt-hour (kWh). 1 kilowatt = 1000 watts Fact 2 Solar energy is comprised of radiant heat and light from the sun that can be harnessed with some modern technology such as, photo-voltaic, solar heating, artificial photosynthesis, solar architecture, and solar thermal electricity. Fact 3 About 30% is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed by the ocean, the clouds, and land masses. Fact 4 Solar energy can also be used in other ways. By means of photosynthesis, solar energy is converted by green plants into chemical energy which creates the bio mass that make up fossil fuel. Fact 5 These include techniques like timing of planting cycles and the mixing of plant varieties. Fact Solar powered hot water systems utilize their energy to heat water. Fact 7 Space missions by various countries use solar energy to power their spaceships. Fact 8 Solar energy has been used for over 2700 years. In 700 BC, glass lenses were used to make fire by magnifying the sun's rays Fact 9 Having to invest in a large amount is one of the primary reasons why solar energy is still not used by many people throughout the world. Fact 10 Residential and commercial solar panel systems consist of several solar panels, an inverter, a battery, a charge regulator, wiring, and support materials. The solar panels are able to absorb the sunlight and are then converted into electricity. Whereas the battery stores electricity that can be used at a later time from cloudy days or during the evening. Fact 11 By relying on battery backup, solar energy can even provide electricity 24x7, even on cloudy days and at night. Fact 12 Solar power produces no noise pollution. It has no moving parts, and does not require any additional fuel, other than sunlight, to produce power. Fact 13 The earth receives about 1,366 watts of direct solar radiation per square meter. Fact 14 As of November 2014, Topaz Solar Farm was the largest PV solarplant in the world at 550 MW. The Desert Sunlight Solar Farm is a 550 MW solar power plant in Riverside County, California Fact 15 Solar energy produces no pollution, has no environmental effects, and is ecologically аcсeptable.
