In 1938, Alice Brady was unable to attend the ceremony to receive her 'Best Supporting Actress' Oscar. At the event, a man went on stage to collect the award. Neither were seen again. TRADING PLACES Prestige aside, an Oscar statuette is only worth $1 in value to the winner. This is because they must sign a waiver promising to either sell it back to the academy at this price, give it back, or just simply keep it. 3. HI, I'M OSCAR. WANNA PLAY? In 1937, Edgar Bergen and his ventriloquist dummy, "Charlie McCarthy", were honorary Oscar which was made out of wood an and had a moveable mouth. 4. Not only was the pronunciation of his name turned into a joke, and his acceptance speech cut short, but after stepping outside for a celebratory smoke, a security guard refused to let him back in.
