WHY IS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Physical Educators SO IMPORTANT? FOR Research shows school-based physical education (PE) is effective and best when taught by credentialed specialists. Administrators ensure students have the best possible PE experiences when they support ongoing professional development for their teachers. Why Should You Care About Professional Development for PE teachers? The Challenge PE is a highly specialized class that requires teachers well-trained in the latest content and instructional strategies. Professional development provides opportunities for educators to improve their knowledge and skills, leading to a better learning experience for students. In fact, 48% of administrators believe that teacher training is the most important factor in implementing quality elementary PE. Still, schools continue to assign classroom teachers with little or no professional training estimated 85% or more of elementary PE classes.
