Teachers Spend Hundreds of Own Funds to Keep Up With Classroom Needs
Teachers reported spending a total of $485 $149 on school supplies; $198 on instructional materials $138 on classroom materials dollars of their own money, on average, on instructional and classroom materials and other school supplies during the 2012-2013 academic year, according to a recent national survey. In addition, 10 percent of respondents said they spent $1,000 or more of their own money during that school year.
