HI STIMULATING STEM SCIENCE ENGINEERING The Need for More STEM Education in the American Classroom TECHNOLOGY MATHEMATICS Careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields are expected to be some of the highest paying and most advanced in the near future. Unfortunately, few American graduates are filling these positions. Why does the United States rank so poorly, compared to international STEM students? STEM in the USA When it comes to STEM in the classroom, the United States is far behind its global competitors. Compared to other countries around the world, according to the World Economic Forum, the United States ranks: 28th 38 th 47th IN EDUCATIONAL IN PRIMARY IN MATH AND SCIENCE SYSTEM QUALITY. BY 2018, 92% OF TRADITIONAL STEM JOBS WILL REQUIRE POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION AND TRAINING. 92% Stimulating STEM Nearly 60% of American students who begin high school with an interest in STEM fields change their minds by graduation. Those who continue on to college are opened up to a wealth of fascinating and stimulating courses on a myriad of diverse topics that challenge the mind, such as: Earth and Space Science Physical Science: Forces, Energy Hierarchical Organization of Life – from Cells to Organisms The Physical Science: Matter and Energy Biochemical Applications in Technology Universe and Motion Higher learning institutions, such as Aurora University Online, offer the personal attention and range of STEM programs necessary to succeed academically in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Aurora's high educational standards in graduate level degrees allow students to advance their careers and earning potential while fostering the education of our youth. The knowledge provided by a collegiate STEM education can lead to a cool, fun job, such as: ESPN Biology Professor of Aerospace Spotify Machine Learning Engineer Tumblr Product Statician Instructor Quantum Physics Manager Engineer Aware of the issue, President Obama has said he wants 100,000 excellent STEM teachers trained in the next decade and has proposed budgetary items, including: A NEW $80 MILLION $190 MILLION FOR STEM TEACHER AND LEADER PRESIDENTIAL TEACHING TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT. FELLOWS PROGRAM. STEM proficiency amongst students has waned in the United States, but the job market has ample positions available for graduates. With increased student and teacher efforts in the classroom, these positions could be filled by exemplary, state-educated graduates.
