Open Courseware ov Frw & Opw Minds Open educational resources (0ER) are learning materials that are freely available for use, remixing and redistribution. Advantages to open educational resources include: • Lower costs for students • Iterative & rapid feedback loop • Rich media via online medium The term open educational resources was first adopted at UNESCO's 2002 Forum on the Impact of Open Courseware for Higher Education in Developing Countries. 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Since 2005 there has been a marked increase in the Open Educational Resource movement and in Open Educational Licenses. Eric Pallant and his co-professor Terry Bensel experimented with teaching their Introduction to Environmental Science course at Allegheny College with no textbook. Instead they used a variety of open educational resources. Based on self-report, 41 of 46 students in their first-semester class read the same or more than they would have in a textbook.
