Exposure to Engineering Doubles Teens' Career Interest 63% of teens have never even considered a career in engineering. (Engineering ranks 11th out of 19 in a list of careers students are familiar with) 44% say they would consider engineering as a career if they knew more about it! Financial information is especially appealing: 61% of teens are more likely to consider engineering after learning that engineering majors make an average annual income of $75,000. 52% of teens are persuaded by the fact that the unemployment rate amongst engineers is more than 4 percentage points lower than the national rate 53% of teens are persuaded by learning about the role of sound engineers in music and videogames 48% are persuaded by learning that engineers solve the world's most challenging problems, like how to generate cleaner electricity This survey of U.S. teenagers was conducted online between Oct. 11 and 18, 2011 by Penn Schoen Berland on behalf of Intel. Participants included 1,004 teenagers aged 13 to 18. Demographics were aligned as closely as possible to U.S. Census data. The margin of error is +/- 3.06 percent.
