GREAT MALE SURVEY 2011 EDITION PRESENTS SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST: MEN IN THE SCARY NEW ECONOMY The enormously complex machine that is the U.S. economy has, in the minds of many, fundamentally and permanently changed and not for the better. The New Economy is now a scary place, engendering anxiety and insecurity from the top down. How has this altered the way men behave? AskMen's 2011 Great Male Survey polled over 70,000 people to find out. HERE ARE 10 WAYS TODAY'S HARSH ECONOMIC CLIMATE HAS CHANGED HOW MEN ARE THINKING 2010 2011 2010 . 20% 2011 87% of 56% 25% CUTBACKS IN GROOMING In 2010, nearly 87% respondents said that their regimen included regular skincare or skincare + an occasional mani/pedi. This year, the number dropped to 56%. CLOTHING DECISIONS ARE ABOUT COMFORT & PRICE In 2010, 20% said that comfort or price were the most important factors when buying clothes. This year, it was 25%. 57% 15% 2010 00 2011 0 11% CUTTING THE CREDIT CORD Last year, 15% of respondents had three or more credit cards; this year, only 11% do. The number of respondents who had no credit cards grew by 3%. SHOULD SHE PAY? The number of men who believe that they shouldn't pay for more dates than a woman grew by 4% from last year. 70% 48% 24% THE URGE FOR WORKPLACE VIOLENCE Like last year, just under 50% of respondents said that they would punch a coworker in the face if they could get away with it. IS AMERICA A SUPERPOWER? Nearly 70% of men think that America is a superpower in decline, and 24% of UK respondents say that America is no longer a superpower. MEN 45% MEN %24 %24 WOMEN 77% 21% 82% WOMEN DOES MONEY MAKE THE MAN? 77% of men and 82% of women believe that women place too much value on a man's financial worth. THE MAN WITH THE (RETIREMENT) PLAN 45% of men are either currently saving or will start saving. Only 21% of women have a plan, and most have not even thought about retirement. 17% REVOLUTION 31% 37% 32% SPENDING CUTS 2010 2011 WOULD REVOLUTION REVIVE THE DEATH OF BACKSTABBING This year, 37% of guys would never betray their sense of ethics in business vs. 31% last year. THE ECONOMY? Most men (32%, and the number increases with age) think that America should reboot the economy through spending cuts. Over 17% advocate revolution.
