8 Unacceptable Fonts for Serious Web Development Comic Sans Originally created as a lighthearted imitation of comic book lettering, Comic Sans has developed a reputation for being both childish and unprofessional. Brush Script Largely used back when actual Baby Boomers were still in diapers, Brush Script is a dated font filled with small, yet over-the-top letter flourishes. Impact Truthfully, there's little wrong with the Impact font. That being said, due to its clean-cut, bold style, it's also associated with amateur design and cheap Inter- net memes. Papyrus Though James Cameron's Avatar was one of Hollywood's most successful box office hits, the film's marketing team was greatly criticized for its use of Papyrus font. Arial Seeing as how Arial was the default font for Microsoft Office for so many years, the font is now known for being boring, lazy and run-of-the-mill. Courier While Courier does a nice job of resembling typesetting, it's been painfully over- used by amateur printers, marketers and web design enthusiasts. Bradley Hand Originally, Bradley Hand was produced as a way to mimic free-flowing handwrit- ing. Unfortunately, in today's day and age, the font comes off as overly tacky and whimsical. COPPERPLATE G OTHIC Copperplate Gothic actually traces its roots back to ancient Roman stone carv- ings and Victorian era sign printing. Currently, however, the font is tiresome and out-of-date.
