Kurds in Middle East The map shows the distribution of the Kurdish population between the states of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey and, to a lesser extent, Armenia. The Kurds, who number between 35 and 40 million people, constitute one of the world's largest ethnic groups. The map also shows the major energy infrastructure present between Iraq and Turkey, including the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline, and energy data for oil and gas in Turkey.
