one spot OX U s TM EXPERIENTIAL CONTENT AT SXSW 2015 6 AWESOME BRAND ACTIVATIONS A oO BBQ RESEARCH CENTER Key players included BBQ kings Aaron Franklin and Evan LeRoy A revolutionary facility merging food and tech to discover what makes Austin's favorite food great The lab hosted more than 4,000 visitors in three short days Visitors wore sensor headsets to measure their physical reactions This experience thoughtfully paired a number of tech trends (wearables and data) with something more down home (BBQ). The experience was perfect for Austin, yet still unexpected, building the foundation for a larger piece of research-based content as a result WHY IT WAS SMOKIN' HOT THE MOBILE The truck gave away 2.6 Squishees per minute to serve 3,400 customers in a three day period SIMESONS KWIK-E-MART A Simpsons celebration that let festival goers snag a free Squishee and snap fan photos The experience was created in support of the launch of Lego's 2,179 piece Kwik-E-Mart toy While SXSW was the truck's maiden voyage, it will soon be making stops across the country Here is a brand experience that shines in simplicity. While it embraced Austin's food truck culture, it built off of fans' love for the Fox cartoon while still subtly giving a nod to a product launch WHY IT WAS SQUISHIELICIOUS SPURINA Friskies HAUS OF BACON The experience featured original portraits made from bacon, dry cat food and Friskies packaging An art installation that combines two of the biggest internet stars, cats and bacon, in the name of charity Star power included an appearance by Friskies' spokescat, Grumpy Cat HAUS OF BACON Fans shared cat photos for the chance to win a year's worth of bacon Friskies created a real reason for fans to participate, citing they would donate up to 50,000 cans of cat food to shelter cats for every share of #catdreamscometrue. By combining memes and incentivizing UGC, they met their goal and created a ton of buzz WHY IT WAS BACORIFFIC Ommegang Brewery developed an exclusive beer for the event, Three Eyed Raven (to be released in April) GAME OF THRONES SXSWESTEROS An interactive exhibit that invited Game of Thrones fans to create a custom portrait using their sword skills Guests embraced their inner Arya by using an acceleromator-enabled sword to create a custom portrait Almost 2k photos were shared of the experience on Instagram alone GAM While last year's GoT experience leaned on virtual reality to put fans in Jon Snow's shoes, this year's event provided the opportunity to share custom content that pulled in iconography from the show, including feathers, stag heads, shards of rock and more WHY IT WAS CROW-WORTHY A:E BATES MOTEL No creepy detail was spared, including blood stains in the bathroom A fully immersive experience that let festival goers explore the creepy world of the hit thriller Guests were invited to enter for the chance to win a night at the Motel ВATES MOTEL An on-site GIF booth allowed guests to create a VACANCY custom animation and share A&E artfully blended a nostalgic mood with a spooky set to get fans excited about the show's season premiere. A sweespstakes element CREEPYCOOL leading up to the event and shareable content at the experience extended the brand's reach beyond the week long installation WHY IT WAS EVERYWHERE The Everywhere Lounge offered craft coffee and beer to entice visitors VISA LOUNGE A cafe/performance space that pulled in powerhouse brand partners and celebs VISA hosted panels and job fairs, providing the opportunity to both network and learn Performances from A-list talent like John Legend wowed festival goers While 2015 may have been VISA's first year at SXSW, the brand pulled out all the stops to create a major splash, proving a level of expertise in creating truly remarkable experiences.
