Email Client Market Share: New Stats

HAS YOUR AUDIENCE GONE MOBILE? SUBSCRIBERS ARE RECEIVING EMAILS ACROSS SEVERAL PLATFORMS AND DEVICES. Most likely, your email is hitting their Gmail inbox, lighting up their mobile, and possibly being forwarded to their work account. But do you know where your audience is opening your latest email? We take a look at the latest email preferences. MOBILE OPENS TAKE THE LEAD While data in the earlier months of 2011 suggested most emails were opened with desktops, later months revealed the undeniable emergence of the webmail and mobile audience. Webmail and mobile opens effectively closed the gap on desktop, while in later months, mobile surpassed webmail opens, proving the mobile audience is here to stay. It was only a matter of time before mobile opens dominated, and we saw mobile overtake desktop and webmail as the top environment in April. EMAIL CLIENT MARKET SHARE Last year, Outlook accounted for the largest amount of email opens with 37%. As mobile opens have skyrocketed, the iPhone has taken the number one spot with 20% of opens. With iPhone opens doubling in the last year, the popular smartphone is now in a near-tie with Outlook's 18%.
