In 1984, Standard Oil of California merged with Gulf Oil, and later on adopted the name of one of its many prominent brands - Chevron. Chevron went on to grow through several mergers and acquisitions, the most notable among which was its acquisition of Texaco. Chevron initially took the moniker ChevronTexaco post the acquisition, but later dropped Texaco from the company name. hevron is an integrated oil company (IOC) involved in all the processes in the oil value chain. The value chain starts with the upstream segment (which deals in exploration and production) and ends at the downstream segment (which deals in the refining and marketing of petroleum-related products). It is the second largest integrated oil company - excluding national oil companies - in the US in terms of oil and natural gas reserves and refining capacity.
