A Step-by-Step Guide to Bathing Your Horse

A Step-by-Step Guide to BATHING YOUR HORSE Bathing a horse isn't hard. In fact, it can be very fun! Sure, some horses are not big fans of getting wet but keeping them clean is important. WHAT YOU'LL NEED Begin by choosing a good area for bathing: concrete or grass ground, not dirt that could turn to mud. SWEAT SCRAPER MICRO FIBRE SPONGE MITT SQUEAKY CLEAN! SCRUBBING MITT A basic horse bathing kit & other tools such as: Buckets of warm water Horse shampoo & conditioner Sponge/Washcloth Curry comb Old towel WASHING THE BODY Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Dip a sponge in and rub it on the horse's entire body except the head. Rinse off and make sure there's no trace of shampoo. Fill a bucket with warm water and add in the horse shampoo. Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Remove excess water with a sweat scraper. Tip: follow the direction of the hair. Comb your horse's mane. Should there be knots, gently undo them with your fingers. Dry your horse by rubbing a towel all over its body. Squeeze out water. WASHING THE TAIL Step 1 Fill again a bucket with warm water and mix in the shampoo. Step 2 Hold the bucket about the same level as your horse's dock, let its tail into it, and get cleaning. Step 3 Swish the tail to get the dirt out. Clean the top part with a water-dipped sponge. Step 4 Rinse the tail with buckets of water and a sponge. GOLDEN RULE Step 5 Dry off the tail with a towel. Bathe your horse only when it's warm enough to do so & allow your horse plenty of time to dry off. Visit www.horseland.com.au for a selection of top quality horse bathing supplies.
