DAY 5 22/09/14 CHIŞINĂU MOLDOVA THE STATION'S LAYOUT Storage / Tea Loo Sofa Waiting area Sofa Desk Desk Window / Plants Entrance THE POLICE MEN'S NEEDS / THE REAL ISSUES LOW SALARY / LONG WORKING HOURS Police officers have a stressful and dangerous job. Their working hours are demanding and itis difficult to balance their private and professional life. One police officer excused himselffor his unshaven face - he constantly worked over the last days. However their sa lary does not necessarily reflect that. NO COMPUTERS / NO ACCESS DATA BASES The police station as ane computer with windows xp. They need to write all reports either with this computer or by hand. Some officers bring their own laptop in arder to speed up the process. 22828 The police station has no access to any data bases. Officers can not search for id in a database. Also there is a shortage of printer cartridges NO POLICE CARS FOR THE POLICE The dis trict police has no police cars. Police officers use - if they have one - there own car. They pay forthe petrolthemselves. The staffof private security companies do have cars and have better equipment. Its not a surprise, that the a business man next door feels more protected by the security company than the police. THE POLICE MEN'S NEEDS / THE REAL ISSUES VIDEO SURVEILLANCE TO ENHANCE PROTECTION IN COURT Mieisterul Afaceriler laterse al Republici Maldava Inspectoratul de Peliție Beincani al DPmn. Chisiale Since the soviet times a lot has changed. The rules for police officers have changed and how they are perceived has changed too. In the past there have been incidents with aggressive police men and allegatians of torture. Now, police officers are afraid that REGISTRUL de intrare a corespondenței a sectorului de Poliție Nr. 3 their view on things in court is regarded as biased. If there only was video surveillance - police officers would feel safer from false allegations and the public could be protected from incorrect behaviour of policeman. NO MORE CUSTODY CELLS BECAUSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS Not all police stations have custody cells anymore. Many did notcomply to human rights. The consequence is, that offenders are in the police station, sometimes they are aggressive armed. Police officers dan't feel safe and worry about members of the public who spend time at the station at the same time MORE ISSUES SEPARATING VICTIMS FROM OFFENDERS The current layout does not allow victims and offenders to be separated. This causes troubles when they meet in the hall way. CALLING 902 IF THE TV DOES NOT WORK In soviet times the police was responsible for all kinds of things. Some people still call today when their TV does nat wark ar when there are problems with their electricity. People are not sure when they need to call 902 (the response team) or their locality police. The local district police hands out leaflets with their telephone number an, so people can call the right number, depending on the incident.
