British Bands At SXSW 2011

BRITISH BANDS AT SXSW 2011 FIRST, SECOND & THIRD ROUND INVITES AS AT 29TH DECEMBER 2010 We're only three rounds into the invites to SXSW 2011 and there are already some cracking Brits on the list. For me, the highlight of the whole thing so far is that Woodenbox With A Fistful Of Fivers has made the list, one of our massive local favourites. Elsewhere, while Coxon's a bit of an indie god, I still think Steve Mason has him faded for British eccentricity. But for all the good stuff in there, there's still NO excuse at all, ever, for a fucking Cast revivial, and there are some long-time SXSW suspects there as well (Ed Harcourt, I'm looking at you), although The Bees are clearly having a crack at a bit of a splash in 2011, and – not sure l'm pleased or not – Klaxons are back, too. Anyways, this list'll bear little resemblance to the actual one in a couple of months though, so pinches of salt all round. In the meantime, l'll be half-arsedly keeping an eye on the Brits playing at SXSW over at http://showbuner.com 44 BRITISH BANDS SO FAR. NIR WAL There are - all wrongly - no Northern Irish bands along yet – SCO but they'll be along soon.. It's no surprise that London is (and will remain) the single largest source of British bands – but it's wryly amusing that Northern Ireland gets such a crappy end of the stick this early on. Along with Wales' single showing, it's hardly representative of the bands that they'll inevitably produce, but it does demonstrate neatly that sometimes, the rest of the world thinks England is interchangeable with the UK. Maybe we should tell the Texans that we think the US is only made up of NYC and LA, and see how they reac... Anyhoo, it's still nice to see some of the more unusual suspects in England represented – Sunderland and Slough for example – but overwhelmingly, it's the established places that have got the early invites so far...
