& Some Facts With Statistics A BRIEF HISTORY OF AUDIO Увar This Occurred 1877 Thomas Alva Edison, working in his lab, succeeds in recovering Mary's Little Lamb from a strip of tinfoil wrapped around a spinning cylinder. He demonstrates his invention in the offices of Scientific American, and the phonograph is born. 1881 Clement Ader, using carbon microphones and armature headphones, accidentally produces a stereo effect when listeners outside the hall monitor adjacent telephone lines linked to stage mikes at the Paris Opera. The magnetic recording was demonstrated in principle by Valdemar Poulsen in his Telegraphone. Magnetic wire recording, and its successor, magnetic tape recording, involve the use of a magnetizable medium which moves past a recording head. 1898 The first "talking movie" is demonstrated by Edison using his Kinetophone process, the phonograph was connected by an intricate arrangement of pulleys to the film projector, allowing-under ideal conditions-for 1913 rsynchronization. 1927 "The Jazz Singer" is released as the first commercial talking Juz SINGER picture, using Vitaphone sound on disks synchronized with film. The discs would be played while the film was being projected. Also the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) is formed. 1958 The first group of mass-produced stereo two-channel records is issued, by Audio Fidelity in the USA and Pye in Britain, using the Westrex "45/45" single-groove system. ........... **********.***** 1979 The first full working prototype of a CD Player is introduced from Philips. It has a small LED display and 4 buttons. It looks like it ha a slide-button for searching and a 'auto'-search button. To the right it has a standby button anda play/stop button. ......... Dolby proposes a 5-channel surround-sound scheme for home theater systems. And the write-once CD-R becomes a commercial reality. 1990 DO DOLBY 1992 The Philips DCC and Sony's MiniDisc, using digital audio data-reduction, are offered to consumers as record/play hardware and software. 1997 Developer Tomislav Uzelac of Advanced Multimedia Products invented the AMP MP3 Playback Engine, the first successful MP3 player. Two university students, Justin Frankel and Dmitry Boldyrev ported AMP to Windows and created Winamp. MP³ AUD IO 2007 The start of a hi-fi company Audio Affair. It focuses on higher quality specialist audio visual equipment, designed to offer the best possible sound quality at home. Audio Affair is one of the few companies still offering "real" hi-fi. audis affair 2010 If you were to look around on the street tomorrow as people passed by, you would find too many people to count listening to their music in a digital format, either through a specialised MP3 player, or through their mobile phones.
