A Basic Guide On The Various Graphics Options

TL; DR GUIDE TO RESERVE YOUS PC GRAPHICS OPTIONS This guide will help you find the best balance between performance and prettiness by letting you know what each setting means, what it actually does, and how it makes a PC game look better. 4K 6K (6144 x 3160) RESOLUTION Resolution is the number of pixel columns and pixel rows in an image or on your display. 4K (3840 x 2160) 1080p 720p REFRESH RATE This describes how many times the image on your monitor is updated (refreshed) per second. It's measured in hertz (Hz) You want to get a monitor with atleast 60HZ. V-SYNC Without Vsync enabled, your graphics card is free to render frames at a rate higher than your monitor can actually display them. The result is an effect called screen tearing. JIEK Turn this on only If you experlence screen tearlng. AA ANTI-ALIASING If you draw a diagonal line with square pixels, their hard edges create a jagged 'staircase' effect. This ugliness (among other artifacts) is called allasing. You should be able to turn on FXAA or 2×MSAA without suffering a performance hlt. SSAO SCREEN SPACE AMBIENT OCCLUSION Screen space ambient occlusion is a fancy method of simulating the way shadows form around the edges of objects or in the corners of walls. This can cause unnaturally dark shadows around objects and people. If your PC and the game support It, go with HBAO+ DOF DEPTH OF FIELD DOF generally Just refers to the effect of blurring things in the background, it pretends our 'eyes' in the game are cameras, and creates a film-like quality. Some games' depth of fleld effects blur far too much for style or effect, so plck a setting that stll lets you see somewhat clearly. PP POST-PR OCESSING Most commonly, it refers to effects like bloom, which makes light bleed softly into the surrounding area, or motion blur, which simulates the blur of rapid head or camera movement. This one Is up to performance and personal taste.
