Baby Congestion: Decoding Baby's Snot!

BABY Congestion: Decoding Baby Snot! Discovering that the snot coming out of your baby's nose is a rainbow of colors can cause a lot of nervousness. Before you make any decisions, find out what the color of your baby's mucus truly means. Clear Baby Snot This is the most common type of snot and should not be cause for alarm. White Baby Snot In infants, the white color is caused by dairy consumption and is nothing to worry about. Light Yellow Baby Snot Snot can turn yellow from sitting in your baby's nose or sinuses. Call your pediatrician if it stays yellow for more than two weeks. Bright Yellow Baby Snot This color could mean a sinus infection. Call your pediatrician if light yellow snot turns into bright yellow snot. Green Baby Snot Green morning snot is nothing to worry about, but green snot all day long warrants a visit to the pediatrician. Orange, Red, or Brown Baby Snot These colors are all indicators of blood in your baby's snot. There's no need for concern unless it happens several days in a row. Black or Gray Baby Snot This is a sign that your baby has been inhaling air pollution like smoke, dust, dirt, or other particles. Blank Children's Hospital UnityPoint Health
