In 1938, Alice Brady was unable to attend the ceremony to receive her 'Best Supporting Actress' Oscar. At the event, a man went on stage to collect the award. Neither were seen again. Not only was the pronunciation of his name turned into a joke, and his acceptance speech cut short, but after stepping outside for a celebratory smoke, a security guard refused to let him back in.
