12 Steps to Determine Whether You Need Human Capital Management (HCM)

So you think you u need HCM? Step 1- Initial Need & Compliance It starts with a feeling. You know there are gaps in your HCM process and other pain associated with onboarding, scheduling, capturing time, payroll, benefits or talent. Step 2-Builda Team You and a few colleagues form a Team. Your team includes members from Finance, HR, Payroll, Operations and department management. This is the team that will help you find an HCM solution. Make sure to have regular steering committee checkpoints to review readiness risk, and course-correction. Step 3- Determine buying criteria, funding, ROI and Solution Parameters You may elect to bring in a third party to help you; there is lots to do! You need to define your requirements, fix a budget, determine internal ROI and most importantly, clearly define the buying criteria - what are the business problems and pains this has to solve for you? Be realistic about go-live dates consider all factors including data conversion, team focus, training plans, etc. Step 4-Start your vendor search with social media Now that you have your buying criteria, it is time to start the search - but where? What are people saying about #Payroll, #HR, #HCM, #WFM? Join HCM-related groups to ask questions and find helpful info. What are the industry analysts and communities such as HR.com saying? in Step 5- Selection Process You've completed your buying criteria and have weeded out to a finite list of vendors. Now what? You may present a formal RFP, bring them in for a sales pitch and demo, or attend a few webinars. Most importantly, document exactly what it is you need, how you want it delivered (SaaS, Hosted or onsite). Step 6-Look at the solution, not the price What comes first the chicken or the egg? Do you select the best solution for your needs and then ask for pricing or do you price first? Asked another way: Is the lowest cost provider meeting my needs or is there a compromise? Solution first folks, always. Solution #1 Step 7- You are choosing a partner, not a vendor Your team is getting close to making that final selection. Stop and look at how you get from today to tomorrow before you sign on the dotted line. What is the implementation methodology? How is training provided? Are you going "Big Bang" or a progressive roll out? Is your selected vendor one you can partner with? Step 8- Who is the project lead? Who on your team will write test scripts and take ownership of the user acceptance testing (UAT)? What department(s) will be assigned to the parallel? - Own your Success Step 9-What does your checklist look like? Now is the time to reflect back on the buying criteria the team first established. You will want a check list that is mutually agreed to by the cross functional team and the vendor. Your buying criteria will be road map for the implementation team and the check list upon which success is measured. Step 10 - References Now that all important last step; get a reference from a comparable project that is representative of your objectives. Did the vendor deliver? Step 11- Launch Party! You and your team can take a breather for a moment and have that congratulatory "Project Launch Party". And may the Dayforce be with you. Step 12- Look back at the roadmap Hang on to that check list as it will go back to the Executive Sponsor to certify that you and your team, with the support of a trusted partner, have delivered a world class solution.
