The World’s First 3D-Printed House

THE WORLD'S FIRST 3D-PRINTED HOUSE PRINTER An innovation in architecture is on the cards for the wold of 3D printing as Dutch firm Dus Architects begins its latest project - a 3D-printed house. The house will be located in Northern Amsterdam and the site has already seen streams of visitors, including US president Barack Obama. NAME KamerMaker So far, the architects have built a corner of the house as a sample piece for visitors. The sample was made using the KamerMaker, which piles layers of molten plastic on top of one another to create building blocks. Eventually, the blocks will be stacked to form a tradi Nickname room nal-style Dutch builder There will be 13 rooms altogether and each room will require 6-10 blocks made in the same way as the sample. The dimensions of the blocks made by the so called 'room maker' are 2x2x3.5m. The material consists of 75% plant oil and microfibres making a bio-plastic mix ten times thicker than normal materials. MATERIAL According to Hedwig Heinsman of Dus Architects, the 3D printed house will take approximately 3 years to make. The fact that it's made from plastic means zero waste and there will be reduced transport costs due to it being made on site. 15% plant oil FACT FILE ARCHITECTS Dus Architects 13 3 10x LOCATION Amsterdam years duration thickness rooms waste Sources 360 Models http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/architecture-design-blog/2014/mar/28/work-begins-on- the-worlds-first-3d-printed-house http://edition.cnn.com/2014/04/13/business/3d-printed-house-amsterdam/ http://www.businessinsider.com/3d-printed-house-in-amsterdam-2014-4 http://www.dusarchitects.com/ 360 www.360models.co.uk
