Every DROP COunts On average the world's population is growing by 80 million people a year, this increases demand for freshwater by about 64 million cubic metres a year. Competition for this water exists all over the world and it is vital we make a few easy, everyday changes to help reduce water wastage in our homes and workplaces. How much water do humans need? At least 400 million people live in areas with extreme water shortages. Easy Ways to Conserve Water in the Home Bathroom Turning off the water while washing your hair can save up to 530 litres of water a month. Kitchen Soak dirty pots and pans when cleaning them instead of letting the water run over them. It not only saves water but makes them easier to clean. Spend less time in the shower. If you lose track of time, bring a radio into the bathroom and time yourself by how many songs play while you're in there. When ice cubes are left over in your drink don't throw them away but pour them on a plant. Minutes Check your toilet for leaks at least once a year as many leaks can be silent. While you wait for running water to heat from the tap collect the cold water and use to water plants. Laundry room Wash dark clothes in cold water, it saves water and energy and also helps clothes retain their colour. Only run your dishwasher and washing machine when they are full. Know where your master water shut-off valve is located. If a pipe were to burst, this could save gallons of water and prevent damage.
