This infographic was created by Ashley Turner - co-founder of mobile phone and gadget recycling comparison site CompareMyMobile - for World Water Day 2014.
CompareMyMobile conducted a survey of 1,000...
people and found that UK households have an average of 1.98 unused mobile phones just lying around their homes. This means there are an estimated 52.4 million unused phones in the UK alone.
One mobile phone or smartphone battery is enough to pollute 60,000 litres of water - so the number of unused phones in the UK is actually enough to pollute over 3 trillion litres of water. That's a fairly shocking statistic.
CompareMyMobile created this infographic in time for World Water Day 2014 to shed some perspective on the issue - and to raise awareness of recycling the toxic impact that mobile phones can have on the environment.
CompareMyMobile is a gadget recycling comparison website which has quoted UK consumers over £54 million.
