Will A Shower Cabin Work with My Water Supply?

WILL A SHOWER CABIN WORK WITH MY WATER SUPPLY? THE MAJORITY OF SELF-CONTAINED SHOWERS WILL WORK ON ANY HOUSEHOLD WATER SYSTEM, HOWEVER IN SOME CASES YOU MAY NEED ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT AS MANY SHOWER CABINS ARE THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED AND REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 1.5 BAR OF PRESSURE AND A FLOW RATE OF 7.5 LITRES PER MINUTE ( ON BOTH THE HOT AND COLD SUPPLY) TO HELP YOU DECIDE, FOLLOW THIS GUIDE TO MOST HOUSEHOLD WATER SYSTEMS... DO YOU HAVE A TANK FED HOT WATER CYLINDER IN YOUR AIRING CUPBOARD OR LOFT? NO YES YOU HAVE A GRAVITY SYSTEM THIS SETUP CONSISTS OFA COLD WATER TANK IN YOUR LOFT ANDHOT WATER TANK IN AN AIRING CUPBOARD. THE GREATER THE HEIGHT THE COLD WATER TANK IS ABOVE THE SHOWER, GREATER THE PRESSURE. SUITABLE CABIN TYPES ARE ONES FITTED WITH. MIXER STYLE VALVE (NON-THERMOSTATIC) ONLY MIXER STYLE VALVE Combines hot and cold water, ad- justs manually to desired tempera- ture , cheaper alternative to a ther- mostatic valve. WITH A PUMP ADDED... A simple shower only pump with a minimum 2 bar specification will be required allowing you to fit both... THERMOSTATIC VALVE Blends both hot water with cold water to ensure constant, safe tem- peratures, prevent scalding, good option if be used by young children or elderly. Minimum water pressure required to operate. DO YOU HAVE A MAIN FED HOT WATER CYLINDER IN YOUR AIRING CUPBOARD AND NO COLD WATER TANK? NO YES YOU HAVE A... MAINS PRESSURE UNVENTED SYSTEM THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM STORES MAINS PRESSURE WATER IN A LARGE HOT WATER TANK, GENERALLY FOUND IN AN AIRING CUPBOARD, HEATED VIA YOUR CENTRAL HEATING OR BY AN IMMERSION HEATER WITHIN THE SIDE OF THE TANK. NO COLD WATER TANK IN THE LOFT IS REQUIRED AND OFFERS HIGH PRESSURE BALANCED WATER. SUITABLE CABIN TYPES ARE ONES FITTED WITH... MIXER STYLE VALVE Combines hot and cold water, ad- justs manually to desired tempera- ture , cheaper alternative to a ther- mostatic valve. THERMOSTATIC VALVE Blends both hot water with cold water to ensure constant, safe tem- peratures, prevent scalding, good option if be used by young children or elderly. Minimum water pressure required to operate. DO YOU HAVE A COMBI (COMBINATION) BOILER IN YOUR AIRING CUPBOARD, KITCHEN OR UTILITY ROOM? B NO YES YOU HAVE A... MAINS PRESSURE COMBI BOILER SYSTEM WITH A COMBI BOILER IT TAKES WATER FROM THE COLD WATER MAINS SUPPLY AND HEATS IN ON DEMAND WHEN ONCE YOU TURN ONYOUR SHOWER OR HOT TAP IN THE HOUSE. NO WATER HOT WATER TANK IN THE PROPERTY OR COLD WATER TANK IN THE LOFT.THE PRESSURE AND FLOW RATE IS SUFFICIENT. SUITABLE CABIN TYPES ARE ONES FITTED WITH. YOU SHOULD ALSO FIT A PEV (PRESSURE EQUALISING VALVE) With a combi boiler you will often find there is difference in pressure between the hot and cold supplies which can differ from property to property. Sus- tained imbalances can damage the ther- mostatic cartridge housed within the valve. This will over time leave you with temperatures not being maintained, ending eventually with just cold water coming through the shower. ( this does not apply to mixer style valves. Some brands will not cover a replacement cartridge under the terms of the warranty unless one is fitted, so always check this prior to ordering. DO YOU ONLY HAVE A MAINS WATER SUPPLY ? NO YES YOU HAVE A... COLD MAINS ONLY SUPPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE STORED HOT WATER OR A COMBI-BOILER AND MOST LIKELY HAVE AN ELECTRIC SHOWER FED FROM THE COLD MAINS SUPPLY THEN UNFORTUNATELY THE SELF- CONTAINED SHOWER OPTION IS NOT SUITABLE, ALTHOUGH IN THE FUTURE WE MAY SEE ELECTRIC SHOWERS HOUSED WITHIN A CABIN, THE MAIN REASON WE DON'T IS THE PRESSURE AND FLOW RATE REQUIRED TO OPERATE THE TROPICAL MONSOON AND MAS- SAGE JETS CANNOT BE ACHIEVED WITH AN ELECTRIC SHOWER. THIS LEAVES YOUR ONLY SUITABLE OPTION.... DIY STEAM ROOM The steam feature required no pressure, purely a cold water feed, so if you were looking to still experience the steam, then a complete Šteam Room DIY kit can be used. OTHERWISE MAYBE STICK TO A BATH?

Not all residential properties can install a shower cabin or steam shower as they do require pressure. Following this simple Infographic you will be able to see if you can indeed install one in your home.
