Will Our Roads Crumble

WILL "OUR ROADS CRUMBLE? WHO PAYS FOR OUR ROADS? Since 1956, American road construction has been mostly paid for through the United States Highway Trust Fund, which is funded by a gasoline tax. 000 By 2015, the United States Highway Trust Fund is forecast to be depleted BUT WHY? If this funding has worked for almost 60 years what's the problem? As gas prices go up, Americans are driving less Vehicles are becoming more fuel efficient The gas tax hasn't been increased in 20 years. SO WHAT? Spending $1 to keep a road in good condition prevents spending $7 to reconstruct a road that has fallen into poor condition. If the Highway Trust Fund is depleted: The government can't hire contractors to maintain and build roads. There would be a loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs. UNEMPLOYED Our highways will deteriorate more quickly. WHAT CAN YOU DO? Tell your local representative that you care about infrastructure funding and jobs Use asphalt as your pavement of choice ASPHALT Share this infographic Data is sourced from: http://asphaltroads.org/why-asphalt/asphalt-america-rides-on-us.html http://www.nationaljournalcom/insiders/transportation/highway-trust-fund-in-trouble-20130722 http://www.governing.com/blogs/fedwatch/gov-what-depleted-highway-trust-fund-means-states.html http://www.asphaltpavement.org Created by: CalPave.com | Infographic Design by: SmallBusinessOnlineCoach.com
