From the Braille alphabet to the seeing-eye dog, history is filled with efforts to help the sight-challenged navigate the world. In 2012, NTT Service Evolution Laboratories is working to change the game completely with a revolutionary new product called SightFinder. Its cloud-based image and sound recognition technology, still in the prototype phase, will send visually-impaired pedestrians real-time alerts, warnings, guidance, directions and other useful information directly to their smartphones to help them walk the streets safely.
