Why are these not World Wonder Monolithic Maoi Moai are monolithic human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people from rock on the Chilean Polynesian island of Easter Island between the years 1250 and 1500. Nearly half are still at Rano Raraku, the main moai quarry, but hundreds were trans- ported from there and set on stone plat- forms called ahu around the island's pe- rimeter. The building was a mosque from 29 May 1453 until 1931. It was then secularized and opened as a museum on 1 February 1935. siyiriya Sigiriya is located in the Central Province, Sri Lanka in an area dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters high. Ac- cording to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa the site was selected by King Kasyapa (477-495 AD) for his capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is de- rived from this structure-Sihāgiri, the Lion Rock.
