WHO LEFT THE LIGHTS ON?" Home Lighting Usage and Behavior Survey THIS SURVEY LOOKS AT ENERGY/ELECTRICITY USAGE WITHIN THE HOME AND WHERE PEOPLE TEND TO LEAVE THE LIGHTS ON. A vast majority of Americans [90%] say that someone in their household forgets to turn lights off when they leave a room. 47% People believe the BIGGEST WASTE 42% LIGHTS ON 31% WITH NO ONE TV LEFT ON IN THE ROOM WITH NO ONE of electricity in the home is lights left on in an empty room. COMPUTER ON WATCHING AND NO ONE USING IT CHILDREN get the majority of the blame for leaving lights on in households with children under 18 present, but spouses and significant others get some of the blame in these households, too. 55% CHILDREN SPOUSE / SIGNIFICANT OTHER 31% 17% MYSELF EVERYONE IS AN 13% EQUAL OFFENDER SOMEONE ELSE MOMS are nearly 1½ times as likely as Dads to blame their children for leaving the lights on.
