Who is God?

Who Is God? God is infinite and beyond human comprehension; he is bigger and greater than anything anyone can think possible. Yet the Bible tells us many things about God and the way he works in history that can help us better understand him. God Is . .. What This Means for Us God is in control; he calls us to yield the control of our lives to him. He understands how life works because he THE CREATOR AND KING He created all things with his awesome power and rules over his creation. Gen. 1-2; Ps. 47; Col. 1:16 created everything; therefore we can trust him-even when we don't understand. No mortal ruler or earthly aspiration should supplant our love for God, to whom we owe all our loyalty. ALL-POWERFUL (OMNIPOTENT) He can do anything. Job 42:2; Jer. 32:17 Because God can do anything, we are never without hope. He can change circumstances, behaviors and even our stubborn hearts. ALL-KNOWING (OMNISCIENT) He knows everything, including the thoughts and deeds of all people. Ps. 94:11 Because God knows everything, he sees the thoughts and intents of our hearts. We can tell him anything and he can handle it. When we understand the pervasiveness of our sin, we are able to better understand God's holiness. His HOLY He is absolutely sinless and does not tolerate any violation of what is right. Ps. 99:3-5; Rev. 4:8 magnificence makes his affection for his sinful creation more meaningful than we can begin to comprehend. LOVING Christ's death and resurrection demonstrate God's great love for people. John 3:16; 15:13; 1 John 4:8 Though we can intellectualize a concept of "God" as our Creator or Judge, it is not until we allow ourselves to experi- ence Christ's love that we truly enter into a relationship with God. We do not need to lose heart when we are corrected by God. We are still addressed as children of God-and are to maintain our faith-just as a misbehaving child is still a beloved child when disciplined by an earthly A MERCIFUL AND JUST FATHER Like any loving parent, he seeks the best for his children and will discipline them toward that end. John 14:21-23; Heb. 12:5–11 parent. THE TRINITY The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one in essence, three in function; they all work together to bring about human salvation. Titus 3:4–6 The Trinity is a complex mystery, but we do not need to fully understand it to benefit from it. Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, the Holy Spirit has entered into our hearts and souls, allowing us to be reconciled to God the Father.
