Four years ago, presidential candidate Barack Obama used social media to revolutionize his political campaign against John McCain. Obama included an aggressive social media campaign and leveraged the platforms to spread his messages and amass a loyal following. As a result, Obama had nearly 4 times as many followers and friends on Facebook and Myspace, tweeted 10 times more, and had 2254% more followers on Twitter among other dominant statistics. But who runs the social space now? It was apparent four years ago that Obama’s social media strategy helped his victory as he appealed to a demographic that was previously overlooked. So how do Republican candidates Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan stack up against Obama and McCain in this election? Viralheat plugged in each candidate to analyze mentions, sentiment, and share of voice over time. Check out the infographic below for the results and let us know what you think. Are you surprised?
