Which Countries are Truly 'Good'?

How many countries are truly 'Good? In 2014, the only 'superpower' still remaining is the 7 billion people living on earth... BUPHR Yet those 7 billion are organised into around 200 nation-states, who only look out for themselves. Our governments 'look inwards' because we ask them to. As citizens; we want growth, competitiveness, prosperity, transparency and justice - but only for ourselves. One positive is the 'Millennium Development Goals' have been achieved ahead of targets. ERADICATE EXTREME ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PROMOTE GENDER REDUCE CHILD POVERTY AND PRIMARY EDUCATION EQUALITY AND MORTALITY HUNGER EMPOWER WOMEN 6. IMPROVE MATERNAL COMBAT HIV/AIDS, ENSURE GLOBAL HEALTH MALARIA AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL PARTNERSHIP FOR DISEASES SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT This shows that it is possible for the world to work together to solve problems. But: Climate change, human rights violations, pandemics, narco-trafficking, species loss, terrorism and human slavery are proof that we need to start thinking about the global picture. 2 CLIMATE CHANGE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS PANDEMICS NARCO- TRAFFICKING 6. SPECIES LOSS TERRORISM HUMAN SLAVERY What makes a country 'good'? In this sense, we don't use 'good' to mean superior, or better. We use it to mean they outwardly benefit the world community. Instead of 'better' or 'best', it might be more appropriate to say 'gooder' and 'goodest'. The 2005 Nations Brand Index examined how we perceive the other countries in the world. It found that we do not admire countries for being rich, powerful, successful, technologically advanced or modern. We admire countries who contribute to the world in which we live. We look to countries that contribute to: 3 SCIENCE AND CULTURE INTERNATIONAL WORLD ORDER TECHNOLOGY PEACE AND SECURITY 6. CLIMATE PROSPERITY AND HEALTH AND EQUALITY WELLBEING In order to do well, you have to do good. 'Good' in this context, is the opposite of 'selfish'. A 'good country' does not necessarily mean morally good, but one who gives the most (looks outwards). 'The Good Country Index' In 2014, The Good Country Index was released. The Index measures what each country contributes to the common good of humanity, using the above criteria, and what it takes away. The top 30 countries rank as follows: 01. IRELAND 02. FINLAND 03. SWITZERLAND 04. NETHERLANDS 05. NEW ZEALAND 06. SWEDEN 07. THE UK 08. NORWAY 09. DENMARK 10. BELGIUM 11. FRANCE 12. CANADA 13. GERMANY 14. AUSTRIA 15. AUSTRALIA 16. LUXEMBOURG 17. ICELAND 18. CYPRUS 19. SPAIN 20. ITALY 21. USA 22. COSTA RICA 23. MALTA 24. CHILE 25. JAPAN (: 26. KENYA 27. SINGAPORE 28. SLOVENIA 29. GUATEMALA 30. GREECE Most of those in the top 25 are Western European, except Kenya. Kenya's position shows that this is not about money, it's about attitude; a culture, government and people who care. Russia, China and India rank poorly as their focus has been on developing their own economies. How can we save ourselves? Stop talking about being the 'best' country, and start talking about being 'good'. Which countries have changed your life, which can change your life, and which can change the world. We can save ourselves by 'looking out', by being 'good' as a species together. Massive change is possible so long as every country works for the greater good of the World. www.londonspeakerbureau.com LONDON SPEAKER BUREAU П

This infographic is inspired by the work of Simon Anholt, who digs into what makes a country popular, admirable and generally 'good'.
