What You Need To Know About Child Support

What You Need to Know About Child Support Anyone who is going through a divorce will need to know and how it works. much as possible about child support Child support is a sum of money that the noncustodial parent is required to pay to the custodian. This money goes towards fulfilling the needs of the child: food, shelter, clothing, health care, and education. A person only has a legal obligation to provide a custodian with child support if the child is biologically theirs. The court cannot order a person to pay child support for a stepchild or a child that is not blood related to them. Trial courts are responsible for determining the amount of money for a noncustodial parent to pay. This amount varies and depends on the circumstances of each individual case. The health and education needs of the child definitely come into play when determining how much you will pay your child's other parent. Child support must be made to the custodian until the child turns 18 years of age. A court sometimes orders the noncustodial parent to make contributions to future medical and dental expenses as well as vacations, private school costs, and camp expenses. The penalty for failing to pay child support varies from state to state, though non-compliance can result in wage withholdings.
