What Makes USB 3.0 Different — What Are Its Benefits?

WHAT MAKES USB 3.0 DIFFERENT AND ITS BENEFITS MEET USB 3.0 USB 3.0 is the third major version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) standard for interfacing computers and electronic devices. Among other improvements, USB 3.0 adds the new transfer mode USB 1.0 = 12 Mbit/s SuperSpeed (SS) that can transfer data at up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s), which is about ten times faster USB 2.0 = 480 Mbit/s (40 X faster) than the USB 2.0 standard. The USB 1.0 had a "low speed" of 2 Mbit/s and a "full speed" of 12 Mbit/s. USB 3.0 = 5 Gbit/s (10 X faster) USB 3.0 connectors are usually distinguished from their USB 2.0 counterparts by blue color-coding of the receptacles and plugs, and the initials SS. A successor standard, USB 3.1 (renamed to USB 3.1 Gen 2 in 2015), USB 3.1 Gen 2 was released in July 2013 with the new transfer mode SuperSpeed+ that can transfer data at up to 10 Gbit/s (1.25 GB/s, twice the rate of USB 3.0), bringing its theoretical maximum speed on par with the first version of the Thunderbolt interface. 10 Gbit/s (1.25 GB/s) 2X FASTER THAN USB 3.0 USB 3.0 works with 5Gbps USB 3.0 hubs and devices. It will work with 2.0 computer ports, and 2.0 device cables can still be used in 3.0 ports both on 3.0 devices and computers, albeit with slower speeds. USB 2.0 USB 3.0 3.0 SPEED .... Compatable, but speed will run as 2.0 USB 2.0 USB 3.0 2.0 SPEED Compatable, but speed will run as 2.0 USB 3.0 USB 2.0 The new 3.0 ports were expected to be in the majority of all new computers by 2012 when the popular manufacturers USB 3.0 make it a standard.
