The Asian longhorned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis) poses a serious threat to hardwood trees and wood products. The beetle kills trees in America by digging into the trunks and branches and has no natural predators. If the beetle becomes established nationwide, through the use of wood pallets shipping to and from China, it could cause more damage than Dutch elm disease, chestnut blight, and the gypsy moth combined.
