The truth about EU biofuels

What Are Biofuels Biofuels are liquid fuels used daily by almost everyone in Europe driving a car. The great majority of EU biodiesel is produced from rapeseed grown right here in Europe. in Europe. 65% new cars and 100% of trucks run on diesel. Since the Renewable Energy Directive of 2009, BILLIONS OF EUROS have been invested in European biofuels production. the RENEWABLE ENERGY DIRECTIVE introduced a 10% share of renewable 10% energy in the transport sector by 2020. share RED Reducing CO? emissions to tackle climate Ensuring Europe's energy security and independence. Developing and supporting rural areas and jobs. change. This has created 220.000 jobs in areas like Agriculture Green Oilseed Animal Feed R&D Chemistry Crushing There are aproximately 150 oilseed crushing and refining facilities and 120 active biodiesel plants in Europe. Europe is the world's largest biodiesel producer. Europe's biodiesel is produced under the most stringent sustainability criteria in the world. But all of this A is in danger! Only four years after the RED, the European Commission has proposed to introduce Indirect Land Use Change factors and a limit on production of first generation biofuels produced in the EU. This policy u-turn would endanger thousands of valuable European jobs ... .. and it would discourage investment in advanced second & third generation biofuels. 5648 569321 Here's the truth about the ILUC Proposal Biofuels are not the main cause of high food prices. The World Bank has concluded that the role of biofuels in food price increases is limited. According to the World Bank, biofuels account for only 1.5% of agricultural land worldwide. European biofuels do not include a high amount of palm oil. In reality, EU-produced biodiesel is mainly made from EU rapeseed. First generation biofuels reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel dependency and support EU farmers. Did you know that the crushing of rapeseed for food or fuel results in 60% protein meal for EU livestock and 40% vegetable oil? Vegetable oils in the EU are primarily for food as opposed to biodiesel. There is enough land in the EU to produce food, feed and fuel. There are 1.7 million hectares of idle land in the EU. Contrary to popular belief, rapeseed is part of crop-rotation and not a mono-culture. It increases the productivity of other crops and contributes to agricultural diversity. And the worst thing about this proposal? It's based on science that is immature and undecided. The proposal is based on the IFPRI study, which has not been peer-reviewed. Other studies show 80-90% lower ILUC values for biodiesel! Europe should be proud of its innovation and investment in clean, sustainable biofuels. Don't turn your back on European farmers, European industry, and the progress we have made by imposing unreasonable limits on European biofuels. Do support investment in European industry and sustainable innovation, and save hundreds of thousands of jobs, by voting against ILUC factors and production limits on biofuels.
