IMIMIM TRUE TALES HISTORY'S illMM WORST FIRST IMPRESSIONS! EPISODE 1 "THE SANDBAR DUEL" T BEGAN EARLY ON SEPTEMBER 19TH, 1827. Samuel Levi Wells III and Dr. Thomas Harris Maddox, who had a dispute over an unpaid bill, met on a sandbar outside of Natchez, Mississippi to duel. Each man brought a group of friends for support. THE PLAYERS VS. DR. SAMUEL THOMAS "LIVID" LEVI "HAMMER" HARRIS WELLS III MADDOX WITH JAMES "JIM" BOWIE GEN. SAMUEL CUNY COL. ROBERT CRAIN DR. NORRIS WRIGHT THE EVENTS ROUND ells and Maddox drew and fired on one another, both W missing. Each man fires a second time, missing again. Proclaiming the dispute thusly resolved, Wells and Maddox shake hands and head up a nearby hill for a drink. XX ROUND uny, who had previously fought with Crain, yells "Crain, this is a good time to settle our difficulty" and draws his pistol on Crain, shooting him in the arm. ROUND rain fires back, hitting James Bowie in the hip. Cuny tries U to hold a raging Bowie back but Bowie pulls free and descends on Crain, unsheathing his knife. * MAKING A TERRIBLE FIRST IMPRESSION ROUND G rain fires again, mortally wounding Cuny. ROUND rain strikes an attacking Bowie on the head with his U empty pistol, breaking it, and begins to retreat. ROUND r. Norris Wright, an enemy of Bowie seeing his opportunity, unsheathes his sword-cane and attacks the wounded Bowie, stabbing him in the chest. The sword-cane lodges in Bowie's sternum and breaks off. ROUND owie, shot and bludgeoned and now stabbed, grabs an off-balance Wright by the collar and proceeds to stab him repeatedly. Wright, purported to have said, "Damn you, Bowie - you've killed me," dies. #$&@! ROUND n the ensuing confusion, Alfred Blanchard, an additional bystander, is wounded by stray gunfire.* YET ANOTHER TERRIBLE FIRST IMPRESsSION ROUND wounded Crain later helps carry Bowie from the field. A Bowie supposedly remarked to him, "Colonel Crain, I do not think, under the circumstances, you ought have shot me." #$&@! THE TALLY SAMUEL LEVI WELLS III JAMES "JIM" BOWIE GEN.
