A solid foundation 7 Almost half of tenants rate their relationship with their landlord as good or very good - but 46% are on the fence, saying it's not good or bad. Kindness goes a long way Almost three quarters of landlords have never done anything nice for their tenants - but some have looked after their pets and even sold them their flat at a discount. And it's a two-way relationship Almost 20% of tenants have done something nice for their landlord - like doing DIY and giving them a bottle of wine when they go on holiday. Welcome gifts are well-appreciated 4 22% of new tenants would be happy with toilet roll and teabags as a moving-in gift - but 56% would prefer a free month of rent. No difference. There are plenty of reasons to rent 3 65% of 45-54 year-olds rent because they can't afford to buy – but it's not always about money. Over a fifth of 35-44 year-olds simply prefer the freedom of renting. It doesn't take much to improve relations While only 6% of people have a bad relationship with their landlord, simply being quicker with repairs and easier to contact would help make amends.
