Center Electrode Terminal Ground Electrode Insulator Heat range Threads Hex Shell NORMAL Symptoms: V Brown To Greyish Tan Colour. A Slight Electrode Wear. V Correct Heat Range & Operating State. Recommendation: When new spark plugs are installed, replace with plugs of the same heat range. CARBON DEPOSITS Symptoms: V Misfiring. V Dry Sooty Deposits Cause Weak Ignition. V Hard Starting & Hesitation. Recommendation: Check for a clogged air cleaner, high float level, sticky choke and worn ignition points. Use a spark plug with a longer core nose for greater anti-fouling protection ASH DEPOSITS Symptoms: V Brown Deposits On Centre Electrode. Masked Spark Plug. Hesitation During Acceleration. Recommendation: If excessive deposits accumulate over time then new valve guide seals are needed to prevent seepage of oil into the combustion chambers OIL DEPOSITS Symptoms: 4. Dirty Insulators Due To Misfiring. V Poor Fuel Economy. Recommendation: Check for the correct plug heat range, over-advanced ignition timing, lean fuel mixture, clogged cooling system and lack of lubrication. HIGH SPEED GLAZING Symptoms: 9. V Yellowish Insulator. A Normal Deposits Melted. V Conductive Coating On Tip. Recommendation: Install new plugs. Consider using a colder plug if driving habits warrant OIL FOULED Symptoms: 10 V Misfiring at normal temperaturet. V Deposits Flake Off The Piston. A Causing Misfire.
