Things To Look For When Hiring An Attorney

Things to look for when hiring an ATTORNEY Before you meet with any attorneys, do some "comparison shopping." Make a list of several attorneys. Call each attorney and ask questions that might help you make your decision. (Some attorneys may prefer to meet with you briefly in person.) Ask about the attorney's AL- experience and similar cases they have handled in the past. Ask the attorney if they will preliminary consultation free of charge before you make a decision on grant you a hiring them. If there is a fee for a preliminary consultation, ask how much it will cost. In any case, do not expect a detailed first meeting; Consultations are 15-30 minutes on average. Write down everything that the attorney says. Take time to review your notes and think it over. Then, make an appointment with the attorney that is best for you. Before the meeting, jot down key points in your case to share with the attorney. Bring the contact information of everyone connected to the case; including: names, addresses and phone numbers. Bring all documents related to the case. Some attorneys may want to review the documents before your meeting. Be wary of any attorney that guarantees results. Most legal work are not "sure things". However, an attorney should be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your case. You may decide to hire the attorney after your first meeting with them, or you may want to take some time to think about your options. Ask yourself a few Questions Will you be comfortable working closely with the attorney? Do you think that the attorney has the experience and skills to handle your case? Do you understand the attorney's explanation of what your case involves? Does the fee seem reasonable? How will the attorney bill you for his or her time? Who else will be working on the case - associate attorney, legal assistant, paralegal? How will their work be billed? What is the attorney's estimate of the total charges? Do you and your attorney have the same goals? Make sure that you understand and are comfortable with the attorney's work habits and schedule. When can you expect significant developments? When and how often is the attorney going to contact you? If you are content and positive regarding the answers to these questions, you may have found the right attorney for you.
