Sam contacted me while completing his MBA in marketing at Roosevelt University. He wanted a re-design of his resume into something more aesthetically pleasing. Sam is as passionate about MMA as I am a...
bout design. After discussing potential design directions, we agreed to concept the resume as the front page of a newspaper, highlighting an interesting personal history, including his role as a contributor to an online MMA site. I went with the classic Berliner newspaper dimensions, adding to the authenticity of the concept. His job experience centered around the hospitality industry, so I wanted to focus less on his employment, and more on his passions. I was able to highlight his Muy Thai kickboxing experience visually, giving the work some aggressive lines in the illustration. I also wanted to convey Sam’s absolute dedication to the sport. The headline copy (Heart & Soul) allowed me to indicate Sam as a true fighter, someone who could grind out long hours on projects. The design was quite successful. Sam started receiving job interviews immediately, and in less than two weeks gained employment at one of the largest Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu training academies in Chicago.
