The Tale of the New Year's Fail

THE TALE OF THE New Year's. 2FAIL Most Americans gain one persistent pound each holiday season. (on average) THAT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A LOT. OR DOES IT? Collectively, Americans will gain That is the equivalent weight of 838 Jumbo Jets 300 MILLION POUNDS ....... THIS HOLIDAY SEASON The problem is... we tend not to lose them, and that pound adds up! For reference, Delta Airlines, the world's largest airline carrier has 751 aircraft in its entire fleet. There are 3,500 CALORIES PER POUND of fat. Assuming 100 calories burned per mile, FOR EACH POUND OF FAT YOU ADD THIS HOLIDAY, YOU'D HAVE TO WALK 35 MILES TO LOSE IT. That would mean for each pound gained, all Americans would need to walk 10.5 BILLION MILES That's equivalent to a 747 circling the globe 421,660 times! TO COVER THIS MILEAGE WE WOULD NEED TO DO SOMETHING DRASTIC. Imagine if everyone walked home for the holidays! IT TAKES JUST A FEW MINUTES CALORIES BURNED BY WALKING 1 MILE TO PUT ON WEIGHT BUT A LONG TIME TO TAKE IT OFF 450 CALORIES Weight in pounds The average number of Speed in MPH 100 120 140 160 180 200 220 250 275 300 calories in a Medium Size 2.0 57 68 80 91 102 114 125 142 156 170 COFFEE Holiday Latte from your favorite barista... 2.5 55 65 76 87 98 109 120 136 150 164 3.0 53 64 74 85 95 106 117 133 146 159 3.5 52 62 73 83 94 104 114 130 143 156 That's 4.5 miles to burn this drink off. 170 127 140 159 175 4.0 57 68 80 91 102 114 125 142 156 4.5 64 76 89 102 115 191 5.5 73 87 102 116 131 145 160 182 200 218 It takes just 8 of these yummy drinks to add one pound of fat. SO WHAT'S THIS COSTING US? Unfortunately, overweight Americans pay out of pocket $1,429* $712 * more for annual health care costs. *on average 42% more than their healthier peers Not So 2/3rds of Americans are not at a healthy body weight. Merry Anymore The amount that Americans forecast they will spend on Christmas gifts this year. If this problem didn't exist, Americans could spend 21.6% more on holiday gifts.
