Unions -- Some people hate them, and some love them. http://www.humanresourcesmba.net/ has created an infographic explaining unions and the statistics and behind them, entitled ‚ÄúState of the Unions‚...
Forty years ago, 25 percent of workers were in a union. Today, that number is more like 10 percent. The public sector holds the majority of union workers, with over 35.3 percent. The private sector holds a small 6.7 percent. When it comes to gender activity in unions, males hold a small 10 percent margin over females. Race is where unions really show big differences. 78 percent of union workers are White, followed by 14 percent Black, 13 percent Hispanic, and 4 percent Asian. The largest unions? Local government and utilities.
When it comes to pay, union members typically make an average of $200 more per week than a non-union member. However, union membership has decreased dramatically in the United States, and we are among the nations with the least union members in the world. Why? Some of the major reasons include public disapproval, opposition from employers, and the higher cost of operation.
This infographic also details the approval numbers of unions over the years, along with some of the amazing achievements that unions have accomplished, such as workday breaks, child labor laws, pension, and the Family Medical Leave Act, just to name a few.
